Salt is great for many things. It helps to increase the longevity of natural products. It can provide exfoliation and it helps certain skin conditions like eczema.
But all salts are not created equally, so let’s get into the ones I use in my products
DEAD SEA SALT
Sea salt in general, is less processed than other types of salt. Dead Sea Salt is high in magnesium, calcium and potassium.
It is generally recommended for those with psoriasis, eczema and other dry skin conditions. Sea salt baths are also reported to help circulation, ease sore muscles and relieve stiff joints.
EPSOM SALTS
Epsom salt is also known as magnesium sulfate. Despite the name, it is not a traditional salt, but a compound mix of magnesium, sulfur, and oxygen.
The high levels of Magnesium in Epsom salts have benefits for the body. Good Magnesium levels are needed for good sleep and low stress. It reduces muscle soreness; relieves cramps; reduces pain and swelling. There is also some anecdotal reports about it also reducing arthritis, but this has not been scientifically proven.
PINK HIMALAYAN SALT
Himalayan salt is a type of sea salt mined in the foothills of the Himalayan mountains. Despite marketing claims, it’s chemical composition is similar table salt. So why do we use it? Well salt is amazing for the skin and it looks prettier….. you know it does!
Salt has antimicrobial properties, which may make it great for treating acne and according to dermatologists, has a positive effect on psoriasis and eczema, reducing the sting from water during severe flare ups and treating skin inflammation, scaling, redness and irritation.
